• THE AUTHOR
Hi, my name is Ruben Figueroa. What do I want you to know about me?
First, I endeavor to be a bondservant of Christ. If you do not know what a bondservant is, read Talanton. By the end, I believe you will understand.
I have been married to the same woman for nearly 49 years, and I love her more now than ever before. I share that for those who may be going through the rough years. I want to give you hope and let you know that it gets much better.
I have two grown daughters and a granddaughter of whom I am very proud. My daughters are bright, witty, intelligent, and beautiful women, and I am happy to say that we have a wonderful relationship.
As all grandparents know, the best is saved for last. I tell my granddaughter that she is my favoritest grandchild in the whole world. She is my only grandchild but she sure is my favorite. She is the apple of my eye.
I am a United States Air Force veteran. I have been in business for most of my adult life. For more than 25 years, I have designed and built custom furniture and custom domino tables. I do it because I love the work.
I have no plans to retire. There is still so much more I want to do with my life, and work is part of it.
I have been a Christian for more than 40 years. I must admit that, for a large part of that time, I was not a shining example or ambassador of Christ. I am better now, but I am still far from where I liked to be.
I wrote Talanton because the Parable of the Talents became a fascinating story to me once I began looking beyond its most common interpretation. In this book, I share what I believe is an equally compelling exposition of this familiar parable.
Once I understood what this parable was saying, it changed the way I saw my relationship with Christ. That change in me has been profound. I believe that when you finish this book, you will also be challenged to examine your relationship with Christ.
I examined the parable from a business perspective because I believe that is how it was presented. Business is a common denominator spanning the centuries. Methods, currencies, and marketplaces change, but the principles of trust, responsibility, work, accountability, and faithfulness remain.
A consistent and continuous thread is woven throughout this story, carrying a message intended for every generation.
I invite you to join me on this journey.
Be faithful.
